Halifax Republican Town Committee

Born on the Fourth of July

The Only July 4th Town in Massachusetts
Since 1734

Halifax was incorporated on July 4, 1734 — forty-two years before the Declaration of Independence made that date America’s birthday. It is the only town in the Commonwealth that can say so. We’re the Republicans of that town: recruiting, promoting, and electing leaders who defend the values that built it, for the families and future of Halifax.

Incorporated July 4, 1734 · Forty-Two Years Before the Declaration

Independence Day is our town’s birthday. We’re fighting to keep Halifax a place where the people — not the bureaucracy — still decide.

What We Stand For

Country & Heritage

A strong sense of pride in our country and our heritage, and America’s enduring role as leader of the free world.

Government Closest to the People

Government “of, by, and for the people” that minimizes its intervention in citizens’ lives — promoting individual responsibility, initiative, and free enterprise.

Family, Character & Integrity

The strengthening and defense of the family, and government grounded in good character and personal integrity.

We are the Halifax Republican Town Committee. Our members come from every walk of life — varied careers, backgrounds, and ages — united in our commitment to the Constitution and to electing Republican candidates for local, county, state, and national office. All Republicans and Independents are welcome. Our upcoming meetings are listed above and on our Meetings page. Want to know what’s happening in Town government this week? See our Town Meetings page.

“The Town of Halifax was incorporated on July 4, 1734… We are the only town in the Commonwealth to have this honor.”

The Town of Halifax’s own history (halifaxma.gov). Carved out of Middleborough, Pembroke, and Plympton by an act of the General Court and named for the Earl of Halifax, the town has governed itself by open town meeting for nearly three centuries — since forty-two years before the Declaration of Independence gave the rest of America a reason to celebrate our birthday. Self-government isn’t an abstraction here — it’s the family business.
